If you are a Ford vehicle owner, you might be curious about the Ford extended warranty program. All new vehicles from Ford come with a basic warranty, but not all used or pre-owned vehicles will have any coverage. You may also choose to add additional coverage to your new or used vehicle at the time of purchase. New Ford vehicles come with a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. This can be extended to last longer if you choose. You can use the benefits of your Ford extended warranty at any licensed Ford dealership or repair shop worldwide.
Roadside assistance is a major component of the Ford warranty program. If you ever break down or have a flat tire, no matter the day of the year or the time of day, Ford will be there to help. All it takes is a toll-free phone call to Ford and they will provide you with a repair technician, towing service or whatever other service fits your needs. You will not have to pay for anything; its all covered under your warranty.
The Ford warranty program covers a variety of vehicle components. These components include parts of your drive train, steering, ignition, power windows and doors, lights, transmission and more. Some plans will cover tires, others will not.
Ford offers multiple types of plans. Some are more basic and cover only the most common vehicle components, while others cover every imaginable part of your car and may even offer a rental vehicle for you to drive while youre waiting for repairs.
Its a good idea to research your Ford vehicle warranty online before you go to the dealer. You will be able to decide exactly the coverage you want and will not have to risk being oversold by a salesman at the dealership. If your vehicle is covered by a Ford powertrain warranty, it’s important to know that this warranty plan is much more limited than bumper-to-bumper coverage. Though it lasts for five years or 60,000 miles, the Ford powertrain warranty only covers the parts of the car that mechanically drive it forward (a.k.a., your car’s powertrain). Ford powertrain warranties cover: All-wheel drive
In addition to the basic Bumper to Bumper warranty, Ford has extended warranty for certain auto parts and conditions such as powertrain, safety restraint system, corrosion and diesel engine. The Extended Warranty coverage varies by models. Check your owner manual for detailed coverage.
We bought a ford escape brand new in 2015 and also took the extended warranty. Our 3 year warranty was up in july 2018, in september when I was washing the car I noticed paint bubbles under the passenger inside door, drivers side, so when we took it in for our regular service we showed the service guy. He looked it up and said our regular warranty expired in july and the extended warranty only covers it if it rusts through! Really??
To fix rust bubbles inside the door seems to be a lot cheaper then replacing the whole door if it rusts through. Not very happy with the extended warranty we took or the fact it has rust bubbles inside the door. I am retired and this car only has 32000. Miles on it and it sits inside the garage most of the time.
You can get a Ford extended warranty much cheaper from third-party vendors than you can from the dealer. I paid around $800 for mine purchased through Ford Extended Warranty, Ford ESP, Premium Care & Maintenance Plans .
Once you purchase it you can verify it by going to your dealer and asking for an Oasis report. Itll show the presence of the extended warranty on the report.
I bought mine for the exact same reasons: if it failed and it was expensive I wanted it to be someone elses checkbook paying to fix it. Note that I have modified my car, but not the drivetrain. If youre thinking of tuning your car or making other engine changes Id be more hesitant of purchasing an extended warranty.
I remember reading on here there are some third party service plans that are alternatives to extended warranties (not through Ford). I am considering something like this, or an extended warranty, but I dont know what to do.
The fuel system (and well keep it to that, dont drag this one out too far - please) is what my main concern is, however I have read both sides time and time again here and its a crap shoot no matter what. Its either going to be warranty or insurance, and more likely the latter it appears. What about a third party service plan? Is there any data out there that shows any consistency in how they handle fuel system problems?
This may be a loaded question, but in general how likely is it Ford will bait and switch or dodge a problem under warranty? There are a lot of other things that can happen that a warranty covers, so for one type of problem it might not be the right thing but if Ford is good on the rest of it it might be worth it - Nav system for example, or the transmission.
The way I look at it is likely different. Truck comes with a 100k warranty on the engine and 60k on the power train. If I have an extended warranty from Ford and Ford denies coverage on the power train or engine, I have Ford going after Ford for coverage. Id rather have an independent third party go after them.
Either way they (ESPs) are a tax anyway. If you buy them, you wont need em. If you dont buy them, you are going to need them. In the end, you are paying one way or another.
As others have said too, shop around; some deal better than others.Third party warranties were a crap shoot a few years back. However, after years of bad press and some federal mandates made them somewhat better. That being said its still up to the Ford service department as to how much of a hassle its going to be. Some are very proactive about third party providers, especially those they have experience with. You cant beat the Ford ESP for service though. Just about everything covered, you get a rental, and the service department never gets any grief. Well, almost never. I gave them grief for not getting a bad DVD player covered in my wifes Expedition...but the dealer tried several times to get it covered but Ford ESP said No. The dealer kicked in a few other service items free of charge to make up for it.
I had no problems with my 3rd party warranty. They lost money for all the repairs on my 08. Since I financed the warranty with the truck I got half of it back when I traded it for the 2012.
